For example, AAPI data shows that Vietnamese Americans identify as 38% Republican, 27% Democratic, and 29% independent. This can be because of their colonial history. Many Vietnamese Americans formed political opinions after the Vietnam war where the lives of Vietnamese people were upended and stable families became refugees. The Republican Party had an anti-communist agenda, and this went against their moral values since then. Of course, it depends on who’s representing that party.
