There is a simple resolution to this problem. Creating more stories about Asian Americans and POC can give kids someone to look up to and relate to. When children see that they can have a role model that looks like them, it’ll show them that they are normal and that they are capable of accomplishing great things too. Instead of limiting to the simplified and known, why not represent a bigger and more diverse community to stand out? Having our children learn about all people, from all races and walks of life, will prove to them that Asians and Asian Americans are a part of our history too. Overall, by diversifying Asian portrayal in children’s literature, we can give our future children relatable people to look up to.
