Domestic terrorists marched at the Capitol, encouraged by President Donald J. Trump. Soon, they stormed into the Capitol armed, interrupting the Senate’s Quadrennial electoral college vote count. These dedicated Trump loyalists were met with police, but instead of being turned away, they were welcomed into the house. They carried Blue Lives Matter flags, Confederate flags, and Trump flags.

Black Lives Matter, a movement that rose from the death of George Floyd, gained traction as people protested against racially motivated violence against black people. It’s a political and social movement that advocates non-violent civil disobedience against incidents of normalized police brutality. Supporters understood that white privilege was systematically gained through generations. Protestors were teargassed, maced, shot at (rubber bullets), and the National Guard was deployed. Around 14,000 protestors were arrested during the BLM protests, and several people were additionally injured or killed.

If this had been Black Lives Matter or any other minority association marching on the steps of the Capitol, they would’ve been treated with violent force, as shown in the past, whereas these terrorists had 52 arrests and four deaths.
